The blade area is one of the easiest details to overlook when shopping for a custom key shell. A key can have the right general body shape and still use a different blade style, blade slot, emergency insert, or hinge area. If your key blade shape is different, treat it as a fit warning.
Blade Shape Is Part of the Shell Design
The key blade is not only the metal piece. It also includes the way the shell holds, releases, folds, or hides that piece. A different blade shape can mean a different case structure, even when the painted face looks compatible.
Before choosing a finish on the custom painted shell page, compare the blade area from the side and from the end. The front photo alone is rarely enough.
Common Blade Differences to Check
Look for switchblade versus fixed blade, emergency insert versus exposed blade, different groove direction, different shoulder shape, and different release button placement. These details matter because the shell must physically accommodate the blade system.
If you are unsure, photograph the blade extended, inserted, and viewed from the side. Those three views usually reveal more than a single top-down photo.
